It’s the end of a long work week filled with high stress, and it seems like nothing can go right. Bam! There it pops up, a pain between my shoulder blades. At first you think it’s nothing and shrug off the pain, thinking it will disappear by the time you wake up in the morning. Now it’s two, three weeks, or even months later, and the pain is still there. Not only is the pain between my shoulder blades there, it’s beginning to intensify and switch from an achy pain to a burning sensation. This is an all too often complaint from patients. While it is more common in females, it is possible for men to have the same complaint. If this describes you then there are some ways to help relieve your pain.
What is causing this nagging pain between my shoulder blades? Let’s first start by looking at your posture, how you sit while driving your vehicle, while working on your computer or even at dinner with friends. Poor posture is the number one cause of middle back pain. We neglect to pay attention to posture over the years, and in the end, pay for it in the way of pain. Posture correcting exercises are simple and can be started once your pain level has subsided and you’ve seen a chiropractor. Chiropractic manipulation and therapies are efficient, conservative treatments to reduce pain and prevent further episodes.
One of the more common causes of pain between my shoulder blades occurs with new moms. New mothers can encounter pain right around the bra line. In my experience with mothers who have newborn babies or toddlers, I’ve found that their pain begins somewhere between three months to one year postpartum. Those pesky little ones really can be a pain in the back! Moms must be extremely careful as they learn to deal with the stress of added responsibilities following child birth. They now carry a large diaper bag, a car seat filled with precious cargo, and still
manage to hang onto their purses. Not only do they carry these items, they willfully must twist, pull, and push them into and out of their vehicles multiple times throughout the day. It doesn’t take long for these actions to wear on a woman’s back, causing pain between their shoulder blades, pain that presents itself in various fashions. Breastfeeding moms are plagued by middle back pain even worse because of a change in posture. It’s important to seek treatment from a Chiropractor to get the much needed relief you deserve.
One last cause of pain between the shoulder blades could be due to the involvement in an automobile accident or some other type of traumatic experience. If you have recently been in an accident, you should see a chiropractor as soon as possible, even if you’re not having symptoms right away. Whiplash can present itself three to six months after an accident, and when it happens, it does so with a vengeance. As this late onset sprain or strain sets in, it can be extremely painful. Waiting too long for an evaluation could quite possibly double your treatment time. Individuals in a recent automobile accident should seek an evaluation within 24 to 48 hours immediately following the incident when practical. The doctor will examine your condition and send you for imaging, making sure you have no serious injury to your spine. Automobile accidents are nothing to play around with, and if you or someone you know has recently been involved in an accident, don’t wait. Call today.
There are a couple of things you can do to alleviate the pain until you can get in for your appointment. Ice is your best friend when concerning pain between your shoulder blades. Make sure you ice the area of complaint for 15 minutes at least three times a day, but do not place the ice in direct contact with the skin because frostbite can occur. You should also start consuming more water. This will ensure that your body is well hydrated for your first treatment.
